PUPILS in the Wee County saw their week disrupted when the aftermath of Storm Arwen forced a primary school and nursery to close.

Clackmannanshire Council tweeted earlier today, Wednesday, December 1, that Sunnyside primary school and early learning centre would be closed for the day with an update set to be issued to parents and carers.

The decision to close the school was made after water and roof damage was found due to Storm Arwen.

Graham Lindsay, spokesperson for education, said: "As we recover from the weekend, the effects of Storm Arwen continue to make themselves known.

“Recent wet weather has revealed further storm damage to the roof of Sunnyside Primary School and ELC.

“A decision was taken on Tuesday evening to close the school and nursery to ensure the safety of pupils and staff, and to allow further inspection to take place.

“Parents and carers were informed by the school directly and will be updated throughout.

“Google Classrooms is in place to allow for home learning.

“We expect to have a clearer understanding of the level of repairs needed soon and families will be kept informed by the school."
