TWO sites are to be considered for a wellbeing hub to replace the closed Alloa Leisure Bowl.

As work is progressing on the hub – set to become an inclusive, accessible and inspiring facility that improves the quality of life for communities and includes a swimming pool – councillors last week heard that two locations will be considered in the options appraisal.

The site of the former Alloa Leisure Bowl, where procurement has commenced for demolition works, has been identified as one location.

The second option would see the hub built on land off Smithfield Loan in Alloa West.

Both are to be considered as an options appraisal is progressed to examine the viability, feasibility and needs of the wellbeing hub.

The study will look at a long list of options, including learning from similar facilities elsewhere and is to result in a concept design, brought back to council by May 2022.

Cllr Craig Holden, spokesperson for environment and housing, said: “Our main priority is to provide a wellbeing hub with first class facilities for the people of Clackmannanshire and I am pleased that we are progressing at a pace towards this.

“As the portfolio holder for place I am determined to ensure the delivery of the interim swimming pool and the wellbeing hub and I am working very closely with officers to ensure this happens.

“This is a complex process, particularly around interim swimming provision, and we will continue to keep our residents updated.”

As previously highlighted, proposals for a “permanent in quality” temporary swimming pool facility at the Marshill car park, by Alloa Town Hall, are also being taken forward.

The meeting last week heard that an award has been made for the design of an interim swimming pool.

A full business case, which includes the costs of P5 swimming lessons as part of the interim pool arrangements, will be brought to council in the near future.

Meanwhile, a leisure website has been developed to raise awareness of existing activities and leisure opportunities within Clackmannanshire and how residents can book them.

This includes interim swimming provision which continues to be offered at Dollar Academy and for children with additional support needs at Alloa Academy Hydropool.
