A TILLICOULTRY woman worked at Dollar Academy unknown to the benefits authorities.

As a result, 56-year-old Jean Muir was given almost £7500 in benefits she was not entitled to receive.

Jean Muir, of Ravenswood, appeared for sentencing at Alloa Sheriff Court on Thursday, December 16.

She previously admitted that between May 23, 2017, and July 28, 2019, she made a false statement to the Department of Work and Pensions saying that she had one job when in fact she was also in employment with Dollar Academy Trust which she failed to declare and thereby obtained Carers Allowance of £7459.57 to which she was not entitled.

Defence solicitor Pol Clementsmith said: "She was caring for her partner and the money kept coming in. She's incredibly embarrassed about the situation."

He added that the money was being paid back in monthly instalments.

Sheriff Neil Bowie told Muir: "This is a significant amount of money over a significant period of time."

He then imposed a 140-day restriction of liberty order.
