A COMMUNITY action group in Dollar is aiming to complete the development of a football pitch and changing facilities in the area.

Dollar Community Development Trust (DCDT) and Dollar Glen Football Club have partnered to establish the action group, which is being led by trustee Kenny Mitchell, who is also the chairman of the football club.

Various members of the community have joined forces to provide their expertise with a view to seeing the community's long-awaited football pitch and changing facilities finally developed.

The pitch has been constructed by Clackmannanshire Council but it will now be up to the community to provide the changing facilities through funding applications by both the DCDT and football club.

As part of a community engagement process, which is required for any future funding applications, Kenny manned a street stall in the town recently to allow members of the community to view drawings and ask questions.

Kenny told the Advertiser: "As we all continue through this terrible pandemic, sport and recreational football is playing a vital role for all ages in improving not only mental health but also wellbeing.

"The football club has a strategic plan where it is hoping to add to the existing children and adult men's section with over 35s, women's recreational and over 50s walking football for men and women.

"However, to be able to achieve this the club needs a base.

"The area concerned is beautiful and as a trustee I am keen to see other groups come forward, through our engagement process, to explore other uses for the sports park and proposed changing facility."

Furthermore, a series of Have Your Say workshops will be arranged from February 2022 where various sectors of the Dollar community will be able to take part and get involved in the design process.

There will also be an opportunity for other community groups to suggest how the could benefit from and use the facility.
