YELLOW weather warnings for snow and ice are in place across parts of the Forth Valley today and tomorrow.

The Met Office has issued the warnings for Thursday and Friday, January 6 and 7, saying snow may cause some travel disruption during the night and into the morning.

Clacks lies just outside the areas covered by the warning, but commuters heading to or returning from Stirling, Falkirk or the north could face disruption.

Snow may affect higher routes during the brighter hours today (Thursday) while frequent sleet, hail and snow showers are expected from around 8pm.

This could lead to travel delays on roads with a small chance that some vehicles may become stranded.

Rail and air travel could be cancelled and there is a small chance that power cuts will occur while services such as mobile phone coverage may also be affected.

According to the Met Office, there is a slight chance that some rural communities could become cut off while icy patches are probable on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.

The yellow warning for snow and ice will remain in place until midday on Friday.
