A DRIVER is facing jail time after twice ignoring a driving ban in the space of three weeks.

Graham Dewar, 36, appeared from custody at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.

He admitted that on December 22, in Bankhead Avenue, Glenrothes, he drove a van while disqualified.

The former Alloa man, now of Kirkland Gardens, Ballingry, also admitted that on January 12, in Craigie Street, Ballingry, he again drove a van while disqualified and without insurance.

Depute fiscal Sean Maher said the first incident came to light when police were investigating another matter and viewed CCTV from a service station.

The video showed Dewar getting out of the driver’s seat and further inquiries revealed he was banned.

The second incident occurred when police saw Dewar driving in Ballingry and stopped him.

Defence solicitor Ian Beatson said his client was originally from Clacks but moved to Fife after an assault on him.

He went on: “He started up a flooring business and his stepfather usually drives him about.”

However, on these occasions his client had “chanced it for work purposes”.

Sheriff Alastair Brown commented: “This is a man who has decided in a number of ways to pay no attention to orders of the court.

"He’s never had a full licence. He’s never demonstrated he’s safe to be on the road.”

He noted that Dewar now had four convictions for driving when banned.

Sheriff Brown called for reports and Dewar was remanded in custody.

He will be sentenced on February 9.
