AN ALLOA man called police to his home about vandalism but officers found four cannabis plants growing there.

As a result, Bernard Lafferty, 43, of Lambert Terrace, appeared at Alloa Sheriff Court last Thursday, January 13.

He admitted that on November 19, 2020, at this home he was producing a controlled drug, cannabis and was in possession of cannabis.

Lafferty told police: "It's only four plants. It's good for the environment."

Depute fiscal Katherine Fraser said police had been called to Lafferty's home after he reported his windows had been smashed by his ex-partner.

He was showing the officers the damage when they spotted a tent with four cannabis plants growing inside.

The plants were each valued at £200 and there were also drugs valued at up to £250 elsewhere in the property.

Lafferty said he started growing his own cannabis to save money as he was spending £300 a month buying it.

Defence solicitor Kelly Howe said her client had a long-standing drugs issue and not just with cannabis.

Sheriff Neil Bowie imposed a community payback order with six months' supervision.
