AN ALLOA man dug his thumb into the eye of a police officer and later bit the hand of a custody support worker.

Robert Jackson, 40, of East Castle Street, appeared at Alloa Sheriff Court via video-link from prison to be sentenced for a series of offences.

He admitted that on May 26, at Paul Street, Lochgelly, he assaulted a police officer by seizing him on the head to his injury.

He also admitted that at Dunfermline police station he assaulted a police custody officer by biting him on the hand to his injury.

Jackson was also found guilty of offences following a trial at Alloa Sheriff Court.

On October 28, at Mar Street, Alloa, he acted aggressively, shouted at his former partner, shouted and swore, made threats of violence and threatening gestures towards two people.

He also assaulted his former partner by pushing her and restraining her against a wall.

Depute fiscal Katherine Fraser said in the Fife incident, Jackson was at his partner's home, was asked to leave and refused to do so, which resulted in the police being called.

He was arrested and started struggling with officers, digging his thumb into the eye of one of them.

He was then taken to Dunfermline police station where he continued to be disruptive, shouting: "You'll get shot in the head."

He was going to be released but his behaviour led to him being taken back to his cell and he then bit a custody officer on the hand.

Defence solicitor Brian Black said: "Alcohol resulted in him making poor decisions at the time.

"He accepts his behaviour with the police officers was off the scale and he does not use alcohol consumption or his mental health as an excuse."

Sheriff Richard McFarlane imposed a community payback order with two years of supervision and Jackson will take part in the Caledonian Programme for domestic offenders.

Sentence was deferred on the Fife offences until March 28 for Jackson to be of good behaviour.
