A MEMORIAL concert for a Sauchie teen who died last year has been rescheduled due to the ongoing Covid-19 restrictions.

Live It For Calum, a tribute to Calum Turner who died in January 2021, was meant to take place this Saturday, January 22, but has been rescheduled.

Calum was diagnosed with Burkitt lymphoma in August 2020 and passed away just weeks before his 17th birthday.

The concert had been organised by Calum's sister Kate, who told the Advertiser while it was a tough decision to reschedule, it was the right decision in order to do it properly.

All proceeds from the concert will go directly to Young Lives vs Cancer, who were an incredible support to Calum and his family throughout his treatment.

Kate said: "As soon as the Omicron variant came around, we thought it might be a problem.

"We hoped it would be fine but over Christmas we realised it wasn't going to work.

"The council said we could wait and see how the restrictions looked by then but even before then we realised people were getting worried about the spread of the variant."

Kate explained how Clacks Council have allowed the family to move the date without losing the deposit.

"There was already restrictions on the concert," Kate continued. "So they recommended we move it otherwise we'd have to put even more on.

"It's gutting but I think we've made the right decision."

Moving the date means not only are people's fears and reservations eased, but it also helps give everyone the best chance of enjoying the night.

Kate added: "We want it to be the best [it can be], we want everyone to walk away saying they had a good night and enjoyed themselves.

"We don't want people worried about Covid, we want it to be a night to remember for everyone.

"We all need that and I think everyone that knew Calum needs that too."

Thankfully the three local bands that were due to perform – Nae Danger, The Somethings and Fever – are all able to play at the new date too.

"There was only two dates available at the hall," Kate said. "This date is the one that's perfect for us all, nobody's away, nobody's on holiday.

"I think it's good for them as well as they'd rather play to a full crowd for a better atmosphere."

The concert will now take place at Alloa Town Hall on Saturday, May 14 with a raffle including local prizes also available.

Tickets for the concert cost £10 and can be purchased by calling Kate on 07727 626225 or via her Facebook page.

A fundraising page for Calum has also been set up, with all donations going directly to Young Lives in his memory.
