IDEAS are being sought to help transform a neglected Alloa green space into an area for all to enjoy.

As part of plans to revive the former public toilets at Shillinghill as a community hub, design ideas are being sought for a garden to the rear of the building.

Hopes are to open Alloa Hub, including toilet provision, early this summer to give the property a new lease of life as a focal point for active travel and much more.

Diane Brown, project manager at Alloa First which formed Alloa Hub Limited with partners Clacks Council and CTSI, last week issued a call for garden ideas.

She told the Advertiser: “The Alloa Hub is a really exciting project for all the local community to get involved with.

“To compliment the newly refurbished building we would love to see the neglected green space transformed into an area for everyone one to enjoy.

“We are looking for inspirational ideas from the public and already have had requests for a bee and butterfly friendly area, a water feature and a community fruit and vegetable garden but we are open to all suggestions.

“Other towns have similar social areas that can be used to bring people together for a midsummer barbecue, movie night or an outdoor exercise class.

“The possibilities are endless.”

As reported last November, it is understood Alloa Hub will promote active travel and health information, will feature charging points for e-bikes, host cycle repairs and a Made in Clackmannanshire shop all while promoting the area with visitor information.

The hub, where work is already under way, will also host exhibition spaces for five Clackmannanshire Tapestry panels, which are to be revealed as part of an ongoing project undertaken by volunteers from across the area, supported by CTSI and the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

Alloa Hub Ltd is believed to be the first-ever community share ownership organisation in the Wee County.

More information on purchasing community shares is to be revealed this spring before opening and keen volunteers will also have the chance to get involved.

A worksheet to showcase design ideas is available from the Alloa First Facebook page along with instructions to submit them.
