A GROUP of inspiring Clacks volunteers are set to take on a sponsored walk to improve the mental health and wellbeing of women in the area.

The eight-strong January Jaunters group is taking on a 16-mile trek with money raised going toward the setting up and running of weekly creative activities within Resonate Together.

The idea has already proved to be a lifeline for many who have been struggling over the pandemic.

Training walks, building up to the main event on Sunday January 30, have been providing opportunities for people to come together and emerge from the lockdowns and restrictions brought on by Covid-19.

Indeed, while some have lost hope over the pandemic, the group has been focusing on allowing participants to find their own purpose in life through having fun in a supportive and like-minded group.

Angela Watt, founder at Resonate Together, said: “We've been running a project for several months, enabling women and girls to develop their own wellbeing by building their own self-esteem and connecting with others.”

Having missed out on a wellbeing award for funding, the group has decided to raise the money required themselves and have already secured around £800.

Angela said: “A big part of Resonate is about connecting with nature and so we wanted to do something that was beneficial for the people taking part to make sure it was a thank you to them and their efforts in fundraising.”

For Angela, key in any project is the idea that activities are not about doing things to people.

She added: “We are creating the opportunities for them to come together, we are creating activities for them to enjoy, to learn skills and to ultimately develop their own wellbeing.

“I don't think things can be done to people, people have to make their own choice, they have to be in a positive environment that is focused on building the relationships with self, others and nature.”
