BRAVE fundraisers are set to walk over hot coals to raise money for a cancer support centre.

Maggie's Forth Valley is hosting its second Firewalk fundraiser on March 24, encouraging people to brave the heat and walk barefoot over hot coals.

Those taking part in the challenge will complete a safety seminar and a motivational session after raising funds in the lead up.

Cristina Pouso, fundraising manager at the centre, said: "Our first Firewalk last year was so popular.

"You can't really describe the atmosphere – it's definitely something you have to experience for yourself.

"People do arrive with a slight worried look but by the time they're doing the Firewalk, expressions are transformed and the energy electric.

"I was a very enthusiastic spectator last time but this year I am also taking part and can't wait.

"I'd love as a many people as possible to join me."

The registration fee for the event has been set at £25 along with a £100 individual sponsorship target.

Paul, a participant from last year, added: "Taking part in the Firewalk helped show me what I personally can achieve by believing in myself and trusting what I know rather than what my instincts are telling me."

Maggie's Forth Valley, based on the grounds of Forth Valley Royal Hospital, has been supporting people with cancer by phone, email and digitally throughout the pandemic.

The centre, which relies entirely on voluntary donations to offer professional support, has since re-opened to see people by appointment or drop-in.
