ALLOA ATHLETIC'S women's football team has been founded to give every opportunity to girls within Clackmannanshire to get involved.

The team are currently in the final processes of appointing its new manager after a number of impressive CVs were submitted.

A training and trials session will take place on Sunday, February 13, as the first team looks to recruit players ahead of the first league fixture in March.

Max Nicholson, club development officer at Alloa Athletic, said: "The board has recognised for some time that the girl's and women's game within the club has not had the same kind of progressive pathway which is in place for the boy's and men's game.

"This pathway aims to offer the provision of suitable coaching for players of all ages and both genders through to adulthood and, hopefully, through to first team football.

"As the women's game continues to expand in Scotland the club has decided that the introduction of an adult women's team will offer a clear target for ambitious players to focus on."

The introduction of a professional women's football team in the Wee County will allow young female footballers across Clacks to work towards the first team.

Max continued: "Coupled with recent changes to the girl's sections it means the club can offer a clear route to first team football for all players with the necessary ability.

"Every opportunity will be offered to girl's within Clackmannanshire to participate in the pathway."

The club are hopeful of appointment a manager for the women's team some time this week, with interview already having taken place after receiving interest from a high calibre of candidates.

Max added: "Interviews for the team's manager began [recently] after a number of impressive CVs arrived in our inbox.

"We've been delighted with the quality of candidates and we are excited to finalise an appointment and move forward with player recruitment and commencement of the team's first training sessions."

The women's first team will play their home games at the Indodrill Stadium on a Sunday.

In what is set to be a historic day for Clackmannanshire, the team will host East Fife on Sunday, March 27.
