A COUPLE who tied the knot in Menstrie are celebrating their diamond wedding anniversary this month.

Sandra and Jimmie Monteath are set to mark the milestone on Thursday, February 24, 60 years after they got married in Menstrie Parish Church.

While they have moved to Kettering in England in the 1970s, the couple still visit the Wee County every few years to catch up with family and friends in the area.

Their wedding reception was held at the former Alva Glen Hotel with 80 guests in attendance.

Sandra, nee Brown, was born and bred in Menstrie where the married couple lived before moving to Alloa.

She worked as a secretary around offices while Jimmie has served as a plumber over the decades.

They have two children, Sharon and Colin, and the quartet moved to England in 1976 where they still live.

The couple also have three granddaughters Melissa, Halle and Eva, a daughter-in-law in Moyra and soon a grandson-in-law in Melissa's fiancé Pete.

Nowadays they are kept busy by looking after their family “granddogs” Toffee, Buffy and Buddy while the younger generation are at work.

Sandra said: “We have travelled the world and had many lovely holidays.

“We lead an active life and enjoy eating out, spending time with family and attending the theatre and concerts.

“The secret to a long and happy marriage is friendship, hard work and luck!”
