MARTIN MULLADY is preparing to play his first ever solo gig in Stirling later this week.

The Fishcross man was involved in numerous projects in his youth, having moved to Liverpool to kickstart his band, Built on Tradition.

He returned to Scotland after the project wound down but rediscovered old material recently and the music bug started to bite once again.

The singer returned to the scene in a more acoustic sense just to try and scratch the itch, but his preference was always for louder, hard rock music.

Earlier this month, Mullady released the first of his new tracks, with the aptly-named Moving On, showcasing that sound.

He tells The Weekender: "And I don't like having all these songs going to waste. If I don't get them out there then they're just going to die on a hard-drive and best lost one day when that thing stops working.

"I need to get them out – to play them live and let them do what they are supposed to do."

Mullady will perform at the Stirling Tolbooth in a support slot for the Greig Taylor Album launch show on Saturday, February 26.

"That show is going to be all my own songs," he adds. "All the original material. It will be more acoustic, just to fit in with the night.

"But there is a whole lot more in the pipeline down the line.

"It will be the first time these songs will be played live and so, whether it's acoustic or full-band, it'll be a big deal for me.

Mullady also recently announced a follow-up single called How Long? will be released on March 18.
