A KINCARDINE man told his mum he wanted to kill himself then appeared with a petrol can saying he was going to burn their house down.

Richard Watling, 38, of Sands House, appeared in the dock at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.

He admitted that on February 4, 2020, at his home, he acted aggressively, shouted, swore, made threats to harm himself and made threats to burn down the house whilst brandishing a petrol can.

Depute fiscal Mat Piskorz said: “At 9.30am, the accused was taken to pick up his prescription from a pharmacy. When he returned home with his mum, he became aggressive and his mum felt she was the target of the aggression.

“He stated that he wanted to kill himself and continued to shout. A witness outside heard him shouting.

“He then left and returned with a petrol can. He claimed to have poured it up and down the stairs and was going to set it alight.

“His mum phoned the police and they attended, finding him slumped over in a room.”

Defence solicitor Stephen Morrison said: “His brother had passed away three months before and they were like best friends as well as brothers.

“His mother had taken him to the pharmacy that day and she had told him she planned to sell at least part of the property on their estate. He reacted badly to being told that.

“This would appear to be out of character for him. His mother describes him as a gentle giant.”

He added that his client sustained a brain injury after being involved in a car crash in 2017.

Sheriff Eric Brown admonished Watling saying: “You do not have your problems to seek.”
