FANS who attended The Beatles' first-ever Scottish gig in Alloa are being urged to pass their stories onto future generations.

The call comes as a plaque to commemorate the Alloa Town Hall gig on May 20 in 1960, when the then Silver Beetles appeared as the backing group for Johnny Gentle, is to be unveiled next week.

As previously reported, lifelong fans Robert Ferguson and Malcolm Robinson from the Wee County have been working to secure the plaque to mark the historic event and will unveil it on Tuesday, March 15.

In the lead up, Malcolm has been speaking with BBC Radio Scotland about the infamous evening.

The experiences of the now historic night, held before the Liverpool band would shoot to worldwide fame, could fit well in the 100 Years of Scottish Stories initiative.

Throughout its centenary year, the BBC is looking to hear people's stories to paint a vivid picture of the past 100 years and Malcolm hopes there will still be some from the older generations in Clacks who bore witness to the first stop on the Beat Ballad Show Tour, back in 1960 – nearly 62 years ago.

Malcolm said: "They feel that having someone on their show telling what the Beatles concert was like would be great.

"Actually, I'd like to meet some of them myself and ask them to come to our Beatles night at Coopers on March 25."

Malcolm hopes the plaque will put the town hall on the map with fans from near and far making a pilgrimage to pay the venue a visit.

A commemorative plaque party to mark a successful campaign – as a "thank you to all those who donated to the manufacture of the plaque, and indeed Beatles fans everywhere" – will take place at Coopers Bar and Restaurant on Friday, March 25.

The event will start at 7.30pm with music from the fabulous A Beats, a duo performing many Beatles hits.

There will also be a Beatles Disco with tickets priced at £10 for the whole night.
