WITH feet blistered and bruised, a Sauchie man has completed an epic fundraising walk in memory of Calum Turner.

Craig Miller, co-community manager at Sauchie Community Group, took on a 24-hour continuous walk around Clacks and smashed his fundraising target for Young Lives vs Cancer five times over.

Setting off on Saturday, March 12, Craig took more than 125,000 steps to cover 60 miles, reaching every corner of the Wee County.

His effort, which has seen him asking family and friends to forget his birthday gifts and donate to the good cause instead, has raised more than £2,500.

During the mammoth walk, Craig was joined by family and friends at every stage as he visited Sauchie, Alloa, Clackmannan, Cambus, Tullibody, Menstrie, Alva, Tillicoultry, Coalsnaugton and Dollar on his tour of the county.

Speaking after the walk, Craig said: "I am so grateful to everyone who has given so generously to this amazing charity and in memory of Calum Turner.

"My target was to raise £500 and to raise five times that amount is a fantastic feeling and it will make a real difference to the lives of the families it will support at the most difficult time in their lives.

"Walking 24 hours was much harder than I thought it would be, but on reflection it's obvious it would have been; my feet are blistered and bruised, my muscles are aching and I am tired, but I am proud that I did it for such a good cause and in memory of a great guy.

"I couldn't have done it without all the support I received from family and friends along the way."

The effort boosted the Live It For Calum Fund for charity Young Lives vs Cancer, chosen by the Turner family.

Sauchie lad Calum sadly died last January just weeks before his 17th birthday following a Burkitt lymphoma diagnosis in August 2020.

Calum will be remembered as someone who has touched the lives of many in the Wee County as a caring and loving young man.

He would often give his time freely to help others.

With an infectious personality, he refused to be beaten down by his circumstances and battled cancer until the very end.

Calum's sister Kate has also been organising the Live it For Calum concert, set to go ahead at Alloa Town Hall on Saturday, May 14.
