COMMUNITY feedback is being sought on plans to plant a quarter million tress in the Ochils near Menstrie.

As reported last week, The Future Forest Company has acquired the Dumyat Estate and is planning to plant 250,000 native trees to help combat climate change and to restore degraded habitats.

The company explained it is seeking to use reforestation, habitat restoration and regenerative agriculture practises to deliver a positive impact for the environment.

Detailed plans have since been made available with public consultation to continue.

Jade Rein, co-founder of the Future Forest Company, previously said: “We know how much Dumyat means for local communities in Stirling, Clackmannanshire and the surrounding area, so [we] look forward to working closely with residents and organisations to protect the planet for future generations, whilst ensuring access to Dumyat continues.”

A detailed map of the plans show areas to be planted with a mix of oak, upland birch, riparian, Scots pine and productive broadleaved trees – all along the core Dumyat path accessible from the north of Menstrie.

Examples of archaeology, such as Castle Law hill fort, will be protected and the company is looking to improve access overall.

The woodland creation plan, across 189ha, covers less than half of the 480ha wider estate and there are plans for other areas to benefit from improved access and increased biodiversity, including highland cattle grazing in open areas.
