ROTARIANS in Alloa have teamed up with their counterparts in Warsaw to offer people a direct way of supporting Ukrainian refugees.

The Rotary Club of Warsaw City has already sent a truckload of equipment into Ukraine – including medicine, baby food, 30,000 instant soups as well as power generators – and Alloa Rotary Club is supporting the effort through monetary donations.

The Alloa group has already transferred £5,000 to Warsaw, where the population has swollen by some 15 per cent due to the influx of homeless refugees.

Rotarians from Clacks previously visited their Warsaw friends in 2019 when a strong relationship was forged.

The Polish club is working with no overheads or admin costs, meaning all donations are going to where required.

With equipment already sent to Ukraine, the Rotary Club of Warsaw is hoping to buy and set up an ambulance for a hospital in Ukraine while they are also providing shelter and start-up activities for women and children arriving.

Ceila Norton, a past president at Alloa Rotary Club, said: “So far, Alloa Rotary have transferred £5,000 with more donations coming in daily thanks to social media appeals.

“Rotarians the world over give their time for free.

“If you can help, every penny will go directly to help the refugees, without any administrative costs being incurred.”
