Road policing officers are appealing for information after the fatal crash, which took place at the A908's junction with Lower Mill Street sometime on Sunday, March 27, morning.

The 38-year-old male, who was the sole occupant, was found dead around 9am in a black Volkswagen Golf, which went down an embankment at the junction and was partially concealed in woodland.

Officers were attending another incident when they came across the crashed vehicle and it is believed the crash had not been witnessed or previously reported to emergency services.

Since an initial appeal for information, police have confirmed the identity of the driver, saying Mr Wilson was the sole occupant of the car and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Enquiries have established that the car may have crashed whilst travelling eastbound in the direction of Tillicoultry, sometime between 5am and 8am that morning.

Sergeant David Marr, of the Stirling Road Policing Unit, said: “Our thoughts remain with Robert Wilson’s family and friends at this difficult time.
“Robert’s death isn’t being treated as suspicious, however, our enquiries into the full circumstances of the crash remain ongoing.
“I continue to appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the crash or been on the road in the early hours of Sunday morning and may have seen the car involved prior to the crash.
“Similarly I would also appeal to anyone who has dash-cam footage to contact officers as soon as possible.
“Anyone with information can contact police via 101, quoting incident number 0962 of 27 March, 2022.”

The road was closed for around eight hours while investigations were carried out.

The death is not being treated as suspicious, however, inquiries into the cause of the crash are ongoing.
