A WEEKEND of whisky appreciation took place in the Wee County at the weekend, with plans already underway for next year’s event.

Alloa-based SlanjEvents held the first annual Clackmannanshire’s Whisky Festival at Alloa Town Hall on April 2 and 3.

With suppliers, exhibitors and plenty of different tipples on display, whisky lovers from across the Wee County and beyond enjoyed a terrific weekend.

Alloa and Hillfoots Advertiser:

Scott Abercrombie, event director, paid tribute to all who attended.

He said: “Our thanks go out to all exhibitors and attendees who came along over the weekend.

“We had over 600 people attending across the weekend, which is just amazing for the first ever festival.

“Our grateful thanks to go to our valued sponsors, Alloa First, OI, Monterey Jacks and Projx plus and event supporters Diageo.

“A special mention goes to our charity partner, Neil’s Hugs Foundation, who do incredible work and spent the weekend raising awareness of mental health and suicide awareness.”

Scott’s words were echoed by fellow event director Serena Lindsay, who said: “The SlanjEvents team are delighted with how the event has been received over the weekend.

“The feedback has been incredible from both exhibitors and attendees and I believe we have put Clackmannanshire well and truly on the map.

“The festival was designed to celebrate the rich whisky heritage that has existed here since the early 1700s, through a quality event that also had wellbeing at its heart.

“What was really special was the number of local people in attendance who had strong connections to the whisky industry and it was it was great to hear their stories and soak up their enthusiasm.”

Alloa and Hillfoots Advertiser:

Co-founder Graham Lindsay added: “Clackmannanshire does not have enough opportunities like this for local people to enjoy and Alloa is never seen as the place to come for events of this scale.

“We wanted to change that and were determined to put on a show for people coming from near and far.

“The planning now starts again for the next annual festival on April 1, 2023, however watch out for some pop-up events across the year to keep the momentum going.”
