TILLICOULTRY Post Office’s temporary closure for a major refurbishment has been extended by a month.

The store, on Tillicoultry’s High Street, is set to close at 6pm today, Wednesday, April 27.

It was originally due to reopen after the refurbishment on Tuesday, May 10 at 9am.

However, the Post Office have now announced it will open at 9am on Friday, June 10.

Bob Sharp, Network Provision lead, said: “We apologise for any inconvenience caused to our customers during the work.

“The safety of our customers is of paramount, therefore, to allow for the refurbishment work to take place, it will be necessary for the service to close temporarily.”

Customers looking for Post Office services are advised to either use Coalsnaughton Post Office or Sauchie Post Office.

After the refurbishment the Post Office counter will be alongside the retail counter.

Local Scottish Conservative MSP Alexander Stewart added: “Whilst many will regard this temporary closure as an inconvenience which I completely understand, I also very much agree that the Post Office does consider that the safety of its customers is of paramount importance, and as such this move is completely necessary to ensure this is the case whilst building work is ongoing.

"Local Post Offices are a lifeline for many people, not only for the posting of letters & parcels but for facilitating payments, banking, savings and myriad other excellent services on a local level, so it is encouraging that Coalsnaughton & Sauchie Post Offices have been listed by the company as being available to look after customers for the six weeks or so that Tillicoultry will be closed for, until its planned – and welcome – reopening.”
