A TULLIBODY man was caught driving when more than five times over the limit.

Steven McLaurin, 49, of Newbiggin Crescent, appeared at Alloa Sheriff Court on Thursday, May 12.

Hr admitted that on June 13, last year, on Tullibody Road, Alloa, he drove a car having consumed excess alcohol.

His reading was 391 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of urine, the limit being 67 milligrammes.

Defence solicitor Charlotte Watt said her client had never come to the attention of court before.

"Well, he's done it in a spectacular fashion here," said Sheriff Kevin McCarron.

Ms Watt said McLaurin had been going through a stressful time as his mother had been ill and added: "He was using alcohol as a coping mechanism."

Sheriff McCarron then told McLaurin: "With a reading like this you were a danger to yourself and to other people."

He banned McLaurin from driving for two years and imposed a £700 fine.
