CROWDS gathered in Alva over the weekend to celebrate the first fun day in three years.

Alva’s Fun Day hasn’t been able to go ahead in the two years since the Covid-19 pandemic began but returned in full force on Saturday, June 4.

People were able to enjoy a wide range of activities, food and glorious weather at Cochrane Park.

Lynn Cameron, chairperson of Alva Community Council and owner of Higglety Pigglety, told the Advertiser about a day to remember.

She said: “It was very good. I think it’s the busiest we’ve ever had a fun day.

“I think after the two years of people having missed it they were really up for coming to enjoy it.

“2019 was the last one we had. Obviously the two years with Covid we were off.

“The fact that this year our date happened to coincide with the jubilee weekend worked out good so people were off and around and the weather was absolutely fantastic.”

Throughout the day there were bouncy castles, classic cars, burger and ice cream vans, stalls and even an owl.

Lynn continued: “It was just so nice to see them enjoying themselves, full families [having fun].

“Looking around there was so many small tots who hadn’t had a chance to be out amongst crowds so it was lovely to see them and families sitting on the grass having picnics.”

Lynn added: “A big thanks goes to the community councillors for organising it and for our extra helpers on the day who came on the day to help set up the gazebos, tables and chairs.

“Thank you to Kyle Rees for playing the pipes and to Lord Lieutenant Johnny Stewart for saying a few words at the beginning.”

Alva Community Council added: “The day was a huge success. We had a huge turnout, possibly the best yet and the weather played its part.

“Thank you to everyone who played their part in making the day one to remember especially the volunteers who supported us.

“It makes the months of planning and hard work on the day worthwhile.”
