A COMMUNITY project in Alloa took another step forward at the weekend as dignitaries from across the UK gathered on site.

The developing Carsebridge Cultural Campus, lead by the team at Resonate Together, welcomed the chairs from the Scottish branches of the United Nations Association (UNA) for their quarterly meeting.

Angela Watt, founder of Resonate Together, said: "The incredible support the UNA has given to the new Alloa branch will enable us to develop a strong and inclusive community representation at the table.

"We know we will contribute to the global conversation and positive action of the UN, for the passionate communities of Clackmannanshire have a great deal to offer."

As part of the support that Resonate Together is giving to the new UNA Alloa branch, a dedicated UNA room will be appointed and a ribbon cutting ceremony launched this community space.

Lynsey Breen, head of land acquisitions at AC Land Regeneration, the owners of the site, added: "The work Resonate Together undertake in the community is inspiring and to have the UNA chairs gather in these historic buildings is a terrific showcase for the charity and all it stands for.

"The buildings still require a lot of work but they are slowly coming back to life and deserve to be preserved."

At lunchtime, the UK Reconnection Tour came to town with Tony McKenzie, tour manager for Engage Britain, having travelled with his team from London for Resonate Together's Change Happens garden party event.

Angela continued: "Through the Covid-19 lockdown, many of us reflected on what is really important in our lives and the vast majority of the local people I speak to talk of their need for connection.

"Isolation, the trauma of Covid-19 loss and the vulnerability we feel means we need to create places for healing.

"The developing Cultural Campus is being created by local people for local people, not only are we trying to save an important part of our community history, but we want to provide a community owned legacy for future generations."

Angela added: "Today saw a real coming together of our diverse community, around 160 people attended and the positive energy in the grounds of Harvey House was palpable.

"In addition, the dedication of local politicians to go above and beyond party politics and together focus on supporting our community was truly loved by all.

"I would like to personally thank councillors Graham Lindsay and Darren Lee, Provost Donald Balsillie and MSP Alex Rowley for coming together to support a project with huge potential for Alloa and Clackmannanshire."

The new Resonate Together website will be launched next month.
