A CLACKS nursery has reflected on a range of events taking place in celebration of its 50th anniversary.

Sauchie Nursery School opened its doors to the first cohort of children on October 6, 1971.

While many things have changed over the last half century, Sauchie Early Learning Centre remains at the heart of the community.

To commemorate the anniversary, the school's aim was to encourage a theme of pride and belonging.

Many events have been held throughout this celebration year, such as the Sauchie Slime Challenge, a sponsored obstacle course, a community wide event in Sauchie Hall, cake competitions and enterprise projects to name but a few.

The whole Sauchie ELC community has been working tirelessly over this last year to raise funds to support all the events held over this special year. Some of the money raised has been put back into the community by developing the space across from the road from the nursery building.

A bench has been installed, dedicated to the community of Sauchie ELC past, present and future.

Furthermore, a Willow tree has been planted to ensure that future generations of children and families will have a space to sit, meet, remember and reflect.

Lynsey Graham, head of Sauchie ELC, said: "I feel very privileged to be a part of this wonderful establishment.

"Sauchie ELC is a very special place to be.

"Families and visitors to the setting always comment on how happy and engaged the children are and the wonderful space they have access to.

"This celebration is a great opportunity for the whole community to come in to the setting and share this 50th celebration together.

"I would like take this opportunity to thank the whole Sauchie ELC community, the team here who have excelled themselves in developing and providing a wide variety of events for all, and the families for their continued support of the setting as well as the wider community, for all their help and support over the years."

Last October the celebrations began with a special community event at Sauchie Hall where a timeline of children, staff, friends and families was created to mark the decades gone by.

Former headteacher Moira Bruce said at the time: "What a memorable day this has been. I am so happy to have been part of it

"The staff have created a meander through the years of the life of the nursery, but more significantly have represented the passing years of all."
