THERE is still a chance to enter an inaugural gardens competition in and around Tillicoultry this week.

Tillicoultry, Coalsnaughton and Devonside Community Council is launching its Best Gardens Competition 2022 with a range of categories to enter.

Blooming gardens in the area could bid for the best cottage garden, best tub or container, best hanging basket or window box and best under 16's garden.

Prizes are on offer for the best gardener and runner-up in each category.

Melanie White, community council secretary, said: “The inspiration for the competition was realising how many lovely gardens I pass on the daily dog walk.

“We are fortunate to have such talented gardeners in our community and their efforts deserve to be celebrated.

“The community council’s hope is to achieve an annual competition which established gardeners will participate in.

“We also want to spark an interest in gardening in children and younger adults and encourage them to take it up, particularly gardening with a strong emphasis on environmentally friendly methods and biodiversity.”

Entries for the competition must be received by no later than 12noon this Sunday, August 7.

Judging will take place the weekend after, on August 13 and 14.

The competition is open to all amateur home gardeners in Tillicoultry, Coalsnaughton and Devonside.
