ILLUMINATIONS are set to return to a Wee County beauty spot this weekend for the first time since 2017.

Alva Glen Heritage Trust (AGHT) has announced the return of Alva Glen Illuminations with the event going ahead this Saturday, September 10.

Visitors can expect the glen to be beaming with spectacular lights along with music, food stalls and entertainment when the event goes ahead between 7.30pm and 9pm.

Woven into the history of Alva, the illuminations attract visitors from across the country and were brought back by the trust back in 2004.

After a short hiatus due to Covid, the trust is raring to go again with members looking to put on a night to remember.

Claire Templeton, a founding member of Alva Glen Heritage Trust, said: “The Illuminations bring our community together to celebrate the beauty of our local environment.

“It is very much a family event where all generations can enjoy meeting up with friends and neighbours to enjoy the magic of the illuminated glen.”

Run entirely by volunteers, the trust works to restore and regenerate Alva Glen in a bid to bring benefit to both the community and the wildlife.

The trust has been collecting funds to put the event on, as well as for general upkeep of the glen, with more than £1,100 raised.

For Glyn Edwards, chair of Alva Glen Heritage Trust, the night will be a chance to celebrate the tireless work of volunteers while raising money to support future projects.

Glyn said: “AGHT is run by the community, for the community.

“Even during the Covid-19 pandemic, we have been hard at work planting flower beds, erecting information boards, installing bike racks and unveiling a wonderful wooden sculpture trail.

“Support from the community is vital to all our work.

“Whether that is helping on our workdays or donating to AGHT, it all counts towards making a big difference.”

Alva Glen Illuminations will be free to enter with donations welcome.

There is no parking at the glen, people are advised to use the car park at the Cochrane Hall or Alva PS.

Dogs are welcome but should be kept on leads while people are advised to wear sturdy shoes and outdoor clothing.

The event is part-funded by Clackmannan, Stirling and Falkirk Local Authorities (CSFLA) and Alva Community Council.
