A PRISONER being moved into Glenochil jail tried to swallow a SIM card when he was being searched.

As a result, Christopher Thomson, of Greengates in Leven, appeared at Alloa Sheriff Court last Thursday, September 15.

The 28-year-old admitted that on June 25, last year, at HMP Glenochil, Tullibody, he was unlawfully in possession of an unauthorised SIM card.

Depute fiscal Susannah Hutchison said prisoners, including Thomson, were being searched at the prison reception.

Thomson had a face mask on and would not remove it when told to do so.

He then tried to swallow something which turned out to be a SIM card.

He said it was stuck in his throat then coughed it up.

Defence solicitor Ruairidh Hood said his client was being moved from Perth prison to Glenochil.

He said Thomson had been asked by others to take the SIM card with him.

Sheriff Neil Bowie imposed a community payback order with the maximum amount of unpaid work, 300 hours and also 18 months of supervision.
