THE Gate Larder is appealing for donations for their "reverse advent calendar" to provide food for those struggling this winter.

The county charity is urging residents to hand in essential items daily to be distributed amongst people in need at the foodbank.

This is being done to combat the cost of living crisis this Christmas which is leaving many families at risk of going hungry.

Lesley McAleenan, foodbank development coordinator, says the reverse advent calendar was launched in response to expected rising numbers at the foodbank.

She added: "We are just trying to increase our donations because with the cost of living, our numbers are just going to be going up.

"We are asking people to place one item into a bag a day and bring it along to us.

"By asking for only one item, we are hoping to make it easy for people if they have a spare tin of beans or packet of crisps in the cupboard that they can donate."

The full list of accepted items can be found on The Gate's Facebook page and includes requests for pasta, rice, nappies, shampoo and washing up liquid.

Donations can be handed in to The Gate at 83 Main Street, Sauchie anytime up until Friday, December 9.
