A MAN has been given extra jail time for a sexual offence against a female prison officer at HMS Glenochil.

Francis Smith, now of HMP Kilmarnock, appeared in the dock at Alloa Sheriff Court representing himself.

He admitted that on July 29, at HMP Glenochil, he engaged in sexual activity in the presence of a female employee by staring at her and repeatedly handling his clothed genitals in her presence.

Depute fiscal Rachel Wallace said the incident occurred during the evening recreation period.

The 35-year-old was standing at the door to his cell "touching his groin area in an indecent manner" as he stared at the female officer.

She reported the matter and it had been caught on CCTV.

Sheriff Neil Bowie jailed Smith for six months to run consecutively to his current sentence and put him on the sex offenders register for seven years.

Smith became agitated in the dock thinking he was being jailed for seven years.

"What do you mean seven years? I had my boxer shorts on," he shouted.

He calmed down when he was told the jail sentence was in fact six months and was led away.
