A CUSTOMER who was viciously headbutted in an Alloa bar needed nine stitches to the wound.

The culprit, Grant Dalziel, had been drinking all day before carrying out the assault.

Dalziel, of The Cormorant, Alloa, appeared for sentencing at Alloa Sheriff Court.

He admitted that on August 20, at the Royal Oak Hotel, Bedford Place, he assaulted a man by headbutting him to his severe injury.

Depute fiscal Rachel Wallace said the two men were having a conversation at the bar.

The victim had turned to put his glass down and was about to continue the conversation when Dalziel "leaned backward, lunged forward and headbutted him to the face".

Numerous other customers pulled Dalziel away and the victim later went to hospital where he received nine stitches on his head wound.

The court was told Dalziel, 37, had been drinking Jack Daniel's all day and could remember little of the incident.

Sheriff Neil Bowie warned Dalziel that if he appears back in court he can expect a prison sentence.

The sheriff imposed a community payback order with 190 hours of unpaid work and 12 months of supervision.

Dalziel was also ordered to pay £700 compensation to the victim.
