COUNCILLORS and stakeholders attended an open day at the cutting edge Primrose Place housing development, due to be completed mid-February.

The state-of-the-art block of flats is a dementia friendly building, with signage and landscaping easily providing an easily navigated environment.

Kingdom Housing Association designed the flat in conjunction with Stirling University’s Dementia Services Development Centre (DSDC) and have managed to achieve the highest level of dementia friendly accreditation on offer.

Councillor Jane McTaggart, housing and property spokesperson, said: “It was fascinating to see in-person how much architectural detail goes into making a housing development as innovative and accessible as this one.

“It’s been a privilege to see these flats coming to life and have the opportunity to understand the dementia friendly aspects that have been taken into account.

“Once tenants have moved in, I look forward to seeing the impact the flats have had on their lives.”

Primrose Place is built on a piece of derelict land within the town centre and has been redeveloped to accommodate 60 dementia friendly designed homes.

This is part of the extensive town centre regeneration initiative. that is ongoing within Alloa, overseen by the Living Alloa project.

In December 2022, Living Alloa received the SURF award for Improving Scotland’s Places, which included the Primrose Place development.

Clackmannanshire Council and Kingdom Housing also picked up honours in the Town Centre Living category at the Scotland Loves Local Awards in November last year.

This is given out to projects that work towards improving and celebrating town centres.
