A CLACKS man sexually assaulted a young girl as she stood outside a shop with friends in Dollar.

Garry Jolly approached the youngster, who was just 14 at the time, and grabbed her before leaving.

The 60-year-old, who now lives in Camelon, appeared at Alloa Sheriff Court last Thursday, February 16, for sentencing.

He will now carry out unpaid work for the offence, as well as being subject to court-order supervision.

A sheriff also raised concerns that Jolly has not yet accepted full responsibility for his conduct.

The accused admitted that on May 12, at Bridge Street, Dollar, he sexually assaulted the 14-year-old girl by touching her on the buttocks over her clothing.

The offence was caught on CCTV, the court heard.

Depute fiscal Rachel Wallace said the girl was standing near the Co-op store in the company of friends when the incident occurred.

Jolly, who was living nearby at the time, passed by the child and touched her bottom for about two seconds.

According to the prosecutor, she then turned around and saw Jolly walking away.

After the incident had taken place, the teenager went home and told her mother who then contacted the police to make a report.

Defence solicitor Nuala Devlin said her client, of Irvine Court, had been drinking alcohol on top of medication.

She added: "He has a very limited recollection of events. He's extremely embarrassed.

"He has separated from his partner and moved from the area following this."

Sheriff Neil Bowie imposed a community payback order with 150 hours of unpaid work and 12 months of supervision.

Jolly was also made subject to the requirements of the sex offenders' register for a year.

The sheriff added: "There is an element of denial coming through in the background report but this was clearly a deliberate act."
