A CLACKS couple who have travelled the world together will mark their diamond wedding anniversary later this week.

On March 9, Clackmannan's David and Janet Evans will have been married for 60 years, having tied the knot at Blairlogie Church in 1963

Daughter Carolyn Goldie told the Advertiser: "They are really kind and considerate people, very family orientated.

"They like to keep themselves busy. Mum always likes to play games. Dad always has a wee project on the go.

"Dad loves doing small repairs, he loves to tinker about in the garage and see what he can make and repair. He's good with his hands.

"Mum loves her baking – she's always making pancakes, crunchy nut loaf, biscuits. They both just like to keep busy and be doing something."

The couple met in Causewayhead in 1957 and have been together ever since.

David spent some time at sea in the merchant navy, whilst Janet, née McDougall, worked at the Donbros factory.

The pair wed as soon as David returned from sea.

The two have lived in their Clackmannan home for some 57 years, having stayed on Ochil Street in Alloa before moving to start a family.

Even though work and family life kept the couple busy, they made firm friends on their street and within the local area.

David and Janet were known to love their holidays, having travelled all over home and abroad – including the Canary Islands, the Caribbean, Cromarty and Cornwall, to name a few.

Upon his return from the merchant navy, David took up work as a mechanical fitter at the South of Scotland Electricity board whilst Janet gave up work to stay at home with their three children Carolyn, David and Victoria.

Along with their three children, the couple have welcomed five grandchildren and one great grandchild.

David and Janet will be spending their anniversary going out for dinner in Stirling and will be joined by their extended family – David's sisters Rosemary and Margaret and Janet's sister and brother in law Mary and George.
