CHILDREN at Craigbank Primary School celebrated World Book Day with a bumper donation of new books from the Morrisons Foundation.

The Sauchie school received the donation from Jayne Linfield, community champion for the Alloa Morrisons, in partnership with the National Literacy Trust.

The Foundation provided schools across the country with 5,500 new books aimed to help improve literacy skills and cover a range of topics relevant to a child's development – mental health, emotional well-being and social inclusion.

Jayne said: "I'm delighted that through the partnership between the Morrisons Foundation and the National Literacy Trust, we're able to provide these wonderful books for pupils at Craigbank in our community.

"It's great to be able to help encourage children to read with their friends, families and teachers and I hope that they enjoy reading the books for many years to come."

World Book Day 2023 was held on Thursday, March 2 and sees a celebration of literature take place to encourage children to pick up books.

Children in full-time education in the UK are given a voucher to spend on books each year.

Lynsey Ross, literacy lead at Craigbank PS, offered her gratitude to Morrisons for the donation.

She said: "On behalf of Craigbank, we would like to express our thanks to Morrisons for the amazing hamper of books that they very generously and kindly donated.

"The pupils are delighted with them and we are confident that they will be enjoyed now and in future years to come."
