THE administration of this year's Clackmannanshire Citizen of the Year awards has been taken on by the Wee County's third sector.

The Lord Lieutenant's Citizen of the Year and the Provost's Young Person of the Year accolades will be slightly changed and will form part of a Volunteers' Week awards ceremony organised by Clackmannanshire Third Sector Interface (CTSI) this summer.

Previously, the accolades were handed out at ceremonies organised by the local authority, but will now form part of CTSI's wider celebration of volunteers early-June.

Chris White, volunteer development officer at CTSI, said: “Volunteers’ Week is Clackmannanshire’s chance to come together to celebrate our local volunteers and the wider third sector.

“If you know someone who is volunteering in a defined role or takes it upon themselves to sweep the paths in your local park without being asked, then the time has come to recognise their efforts for the Wee County.

“Following the incredible success of Volunteers’ Week 2022, Clackmannanshire Third Sector Interface is planning a major award ceremony at Alva’s Cochrane Hall which will see more awarding categories for local champions to be nominated for.”

Amongst the accolades to be collected will be Clackmannanshire Young Person of the Year, replacing the Provost’s Young Person of the Year Award.

Clackmannanshire Community Champion of the Year will be replacing the Lord Lieutenant’s Citizen of the Year Award.

There will be three themed awards with Creative Heritage Volunteer of the Year, Climate/Environmental Volunteer of the Year as well as Health and Social Care Volunteer of the Year.

Volunteers' Week itself will see three specific events.

There will be the Thank You Volunteers Social and BBQ on Friday, June 2, at The Hive's marquee in Dollar from 6pm to 9pm, open to all who lend their time and skills as well as their managers.

On Saturday, June 3, the people will be at Tullibody Civic Centre for the Volunteer Recruitment Fayre from 10.30am to 2.30pm.

It will be a chance for people looking to get involved to go along, meet group representatives and register an interest to volunteer on the spot.

The invite-only Volunteers' Week 2023 Awards Ceremony will go ahead on Wednesday, June 7, at the Cochrane Hall in Alva from 6.30pm to 9pm.

Nominations opened this Monday, March 13, and will close at 5pm on Monday, May 1.
