RESIDENTS in the Wee County are being urged to help tackle the litter emergency through a campaign.

Environmental charity Keep Scotland Beautiful last week launched its Spring Clean 2023 with thousands of people already confirming their participation across 246 events.

Already at the weekend, Alloa Park Residents Association came together for a litter pick on both Saturday and Sunday.

However, the charity is encouraging more people to get involved, calling on communities, schools, businesses and other organisations to play their part.

Barry Fisher, Keep Scotland Beautiful CEO, said: "We've already seen a fantastic number of people commit to our Spring Clean but we know that many more communities could join us.

"There are many more people litter picking who haven't yet signed up.

"The litter issue across Scotland is as bad as it has ever been and the best way to tackle the problem is for more people to work together and for us to collectively show the ground swell of support for more strategic action to turn the tide on litter.

"Spring Clean is a wonderful opportunity for everyone to make an impact. Every action, however small, makes a difference.

"We would love as many people as possible to take part and help us achieve our vision of a clean, green and sustainable Scotland.

"Join us. Help us clean up Scotland. The time to act is now."

The campaign will last until April 17 with people encouraged to register litter picking events via the keepscotlandbeautiful.org/springclean website.

The Clean Up Scotland map also showcases the nearly 150 hubs across the country where people can borrow equipment for events as well, including from Menstrie Community Council or Costa at Sterling Mills.
