YOUNG carers across Clacks and the wider Forth Valley area were treated to a fun day out at the Jump-N-Joy trampoline park last week ahead of Young Carer Action Day (YCAD).

Organised by the Young Carers team, around 19 of the primary age group of carers enjoyed the day out at the trampolining centre in Tullibody.

This group consists of young carers in the range of P4-P7, with other groups working with early teenagers and all the way up to 25.

Alice Wadkin, young carers involvement worker at the Falkirk and Clackmannanshire Carers Centre, said it was great to let the kids let off some steam and relax.

She said: “Each year, around March, we like to do something a bit bigger for our young carers so we took our groups to Jump-N-Joy.

“This was a chance for them to just take a break and enjoy time with their friends.

“We got loads of nice comments from the young carers who said they were having a nice time. Quite a few were having fun on the balance beam and the basketball courts.

“There’s a high jump board as well that they can jump off of, so they all had a great time.”

YCAD promotes young carers and aims to encourage discussion about the challenges they face and the support they need.

The theme for this year's Action Day was Make Time for Young Carers which highlights two key points: the need for adults to listen to young carers and for adults to take time to put support in place to help them.

“The YCAD is an annual national event which hopes to raise awareness of the issues facing young carers,” Alice added.

“We also hope to call for greater understanding of young carers’ rights at local and national policy levels.”

The Carers Centre will be focusing next on Young Carers Week which will be taking place in June, whilst also focusing on their monthly groups.
