A BOGUS workman from Clackmannan conned his victims out of almost £6,000.

Scott Gardner took money from home owners for work he never carried out.

As a result, the 41-year-old, of Garden Terrace, appeared in the dock at Alloa Sheriff Court last Thursday, March 23.

He admitted that on November 30, 2020 at Newburgh, Fife, he pretended to a man and woman that he would renovate a bathroom, the truth being he had no intention of doing so and he obtained £2,500 from them by fraud,

Then at Galan, Alloa, he pretended to a woman that he would build an outhouse in her garden between February 1 and February 28, 2021, but failed to complete the agreed work having been paid and he obtained £3,100 by fraud.

At West James Street, Alva, he pretended to a couple that he would renovate their bathroom between February 1 and February 28, 202,1 but failed to complete the work and obtained £250 by fraud.

Gardner came close to being remanded in custody after the court heard he had not turned for his social work appointment and so a report was not available for the sentencing.

Sheriff Neil Bowie said it was only Gardner's caring responsibilities for his wife that had stopped him from being remanded.

He deferred sentence again until April 20 for the report.
