A TULLIBODY man caused a 90-minute stand-off with police after threatening to stab officers if they came into his home.

Michael Barr had been annoying his neighbours by playing loud music which led to the police being called.

Barr, 30, of The Orchard, appeared for sentencing at Alloa Sheriff Court last Thursday, March 30.

He admitted that on November 21, at The Orchard, he shouted, swore and made threats to stab police officers.

Depute fiscal Rachel Wallace said Police had attended and saw Barr at a third-floor window.

He became verbally abusive and shouted: "You're getting done in when you come through the door. You're getting stabbed."

As a result of this, firearms officers and a negotiator then attended the scene.

After around 90 minutes Barr was detained by the firearms officers.

Defence solicitor Charlotte Watt said her client was significantly intoxicated at the time and had no recollection of the incident.

She added: "It was the consequence of him taking far too much alcohol.

"It was an isolated incident. He's ashamed and embarrassed."

Sheriff Neil Bowie commented: "He had been playing loud music when intoxicated.

"He was annoying the neighbours to such an extent that the police were called."

The sheriff noted that Barr said to social workers that he would not do unpaid work and also said that a restriction of liberty order would not affect his lifestyle.

Sheriff Bowie jailed Barr for 90 days.
