YOUNG athletes across the Wee County took part in various sporting events over the last month.

Clackmannanshire Council’s Sport and Leisure Team hosted Gymfest 2023 at Alva Academy, which saw nearly 200 pupils from 17 schools take part.

Gymfest aims to promote gymnastics to everyone regardless of ability, with activities available to beginners and to more skilled gymnasts.

Meanwhile, Lornshill Academy held an inter-school girl’s football festival attended by around 110 girls from Clacks primaries.

The non-competitive event for girls in P4-P5 was designed to introduce girls to the sport as part of Clackmannanshire Primary Schools Sports Association’s annual events programme.

Robbie Stewart, sport and leisure senior manager for the Council, said: “It was great to see so many girls taking part in the football festival.

“Most local football clubs across Clackmannanshire have female sections and the participamnts are encouraged to visit the clubs in their local communities.

“The atmosphere at Gymfest was tremendous.

“There are many local opportunities for young people to continue gymnastics with either the Sports Development Team, Hillfoots Gymnastics Club or Alloa Gymnastics Club.”
