A RAFT of security measures have been put in place at an Alloa housing block besieged by anti-social behaviour,

The landlord of the building confirmed that security cameras have been installed throughout Primrose Place, along with anti-climb paint applied on surfaces and locks placed on external doors.

Safety concerns arose after a group of youngsters breached the dementia-friendly facility and terrorised elderly residents, damaging an important hearing loop in the process.

On one terrifying occasion, on March 20, a mob of youths entered the building and threatened a resident with a knife.

The Advertiser highlighted the ongoing concerns with one resident describing events as "horrifying" and "very-very ugly".

Now, however, the factor of the building has taken measures to improve security across the development.

Kingdom Housing serves as the landlord for the 60 social rent units at the facility and has increased safety measures across the development.

A spokesperson for Kingdom said: “The safety of our residents is always our primary concern. Following the serious incident at Primrose Place, we immediately took action to ensure everyone living at the development felt safe and secure in their homes.

“We implemented a number of measures to deter any similar criminal behaviour in the future, including the installation of new security camera and the use of anti-climb paint.

“New locks are being installed on external doors, an assessment of external fencing has been completed, and we continue to work closely with Police Scotland and Clackmannanshire Council.

“Anti-climb paint was added almost immediately following the incident and is being reapplied as necessary. New permanent CCTV cameras have been installed, along with appropriate signage for both the CCTV system and the anti-climb paint.”

It is believed the youths entered the building via one of the gates and began terrorising elderly residents.

Doors were knocked, items were thrown around the hallways and some attempted to open doors to flats there.

Important signage was also removed and damaged, which is specifically designed for an ageing population and for those with dementia.

The Kingdom spokesperson continued: “External fencing at the development was assessed to identify any potential weak spots and work was undertaken as required to address these.

“Alternative locking systems for the external doors where entry was gained are due to be installed and we are working with partners to ensure the installation does not impact on the dementia friendly design of this development, something that is vitally important to our residents and to us.”

Primrose Place is an award-winning development, situated in the centre of Alloa, which has been applauded for its dementia-friendly features.

It has the highest level of dementia-friendly accreditation, with appropriate signage and landscaping providing an easily navigated environment.
