A FAMILY fall-out resulted in a man being stabbed by his step-son in Sauchie.

The assault was committed by Ryan Thomson, who has appeared for sentencing at Alloa Sheriff Court.

Thomson, of Branshill Park, admitted that on March 5, at his home, he assaulted Ian Kilgallon by striking him to the body with a knife to his injury.

Depute fiscal Rachel Wallace said the 27-year-old had been at a function that night along with his mother and his step-dad.

The disturbance took place when they had returned home.

Thomson had picked up a knife and struck his step-dad with it. The wound required five stitches.

Defence solicitor Michael Lowrie said: "Quite a lot of alcohol had been consumed."

He said the step-dad had been acting aggressively during the night out and had then been "very hostile" back at the house.

Police had been contacted by nursing staff after Mr Kilgallon had gone to hospital for treatment.

Sheriff Neil Bowie told Thomson that he had come close to a jail sentence but was taking into consideration that he was a first-offender and seemed to be "genuinely remorseful".

The sheriff imposed a community payback order with 300 hours of unpaid work and one year of supervision.

Thomson was also ordered to pay £1500 compensation.
