A HILLWALK challenge is set to get the Wee County out and about once again later this year.

The Rotary Club of Alloa is organising the Nebit Hill Challenge this June, giving everyone the chance to raise funds for causes close to their hearts.

Part of the club's wider Tour de Clacks series, people will have the chance to raise funds for their own clubs, schools and organisations in any way they like, or support a larger charity of choice.

Rotarian Scott Doyle is organising the event, hoping it will get the community out and about in the area.

He told the Advertiser: “We are inviting everybody to come along and raise money for their own causes, their school or whatever interest they've got; or even get family members out and about and actually go for a walk up the hill.

“We've had a couple of events as we started to emerge from the pandemic, but the people I am talking to are still telling me that there's some family members still inside their households, still a little bit too afraid to come out.

“Or, if they are coming out, they are not going very far at all.

“So, we are trying to create opportunities for people to get out and about, enjoy the countryside and, hopefully, repair some of the damage that was caused by the pandemic with everyone being locked up, effectively.”

Starting from Hillfoots Rugby Club, the walk will take participants on a scenic route to the beacon on the Nebit with an elevation of some 250 metres and for a total round trip of around 8km.

For those seeking a greater challenge, an additional route is available to climb to the Nebit summit at a height of more than 400m and a total round trip of 10km.

Participation will be free with everyone encouraged to raise funds for their own organisations.

Alloa Rotary Club will be facilitating and stewarding the event, which will take place on Sunday, June 18.

Young walkers under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times.

Scott added: “Bit by bit, the more we can find little opportunities to get people out, they'll get their confidence, even if they are coming along to support an event.”
