RESIDENTS in need are set to benefit after a donation was handed over to a foodbank in the Hillfoots.

Alva Food Larder received food and toiletries from the Alloa branch of Yorkshire Building Society following a collection.

The High Street branch became an official donation station for the foodbank, which is open to anyone who could benefit from help with food or signposting to other services to improve their situation.

Hannah Ford, from Alva Food Larder, said: “The donations kindly collected by Yorkshire Building Society in Alloa will be gratefully received by those living in crisis in our community.

“Their support allows us to provide a lifeline to many vulnerable families across Clackmannanshire.”

Colleagues and customers at the branch donated a wide range of edible and sanitary items to support the initiative, which is run by Alva Parish Church and is open to the public with a “discrete and friendly drop-in” each Friday from 12noon to 3pm.

No referrals are needed at the foodbank, which launched last summer to support people over the school holidays.

Back then, Hannah told the Advertiser how the school holiday can be a difficult time for many families with a small group coming together at the church to help those in crisis.

David Montgomery, manager at the Alloa branch of Yorkshire Building Society, said: “We’re proud to be able to support Alva Food Larder in our local community and really hope it helps to make a difference to those in need.

“We can’t thank our customers enough for their generosity and the volunteers at the foodbank who continually work hard to help others.”

Those looking to donate can drop off at Alva Parish Church on a Sunday, Tuesday or Thursday from 10.30am to 12noon or during the Friday drop-in.

There is also a collection point at Alva Co-op.
