A WEE COUNTY man will be making his bare-knuckle boxing debut as he prepares to take on one of the sport's biggest names.

Eryk Majda, from Alloa, will be stepping into the ring to take on Martyn Grainger, who has previously fought boxing legends such as David Price.

This will be Eryk's first professional bare-knuckle boxing fight, after spending a number of years fighting unlicensed.

He said: "I've done loads of other fighting sports in the past – when I was unlicensed, I managed to gain titles such as the Scottish Heavyweight Title, the British Heavyweight Title and the European Heavyweight Title.

"I had people reminding me that I had been an aspiring professional boxer for so long and maybe this is the time to turn pro.

"I was very fortunate to have some sponsors already so I could make the transition to professional quite easily.

"The opportunity came up to do bare-knuckle boxing and I had always wanted to do that, so I signed up for the fight."

Eryk struggled initially when turning professional as he went through several different managers before finding the best option.

Alongside being a professional boxer, Eryk works part time for the water company Highland Spring whilst he trains.

Eryk explained he is feeling confident due to his impressive record before turning pro, winning his last six matches by knockout.

Despite this being Eryk's debut fight, he has calmed any nerves he may had an expressed excitement at participating in his first match as a professional bare-knuckle boxer.

"I'm not nervous at all," he added. "I'm excited – very excited. I'll be taking a lot of my friends and family with me.

"There will be a lot of people staying here and cheering for me from behind the TV so I'm more excited, if anything."

Eryk's fight will be taking place at the O2 in London on Sunday, May 21 and will be broadcast across the UK on BeIN Sports.
