THE community in Dollar came together at the weekend with gala season in full swing.

Sunshine poured down on Clacks on Saturday and conditions could not have been any better for the annual celebration.

Dollar Gala 2023 set off from Dollar Academy at half 12, with the procession heading through the town and finishing up at Market Park.

Dollar Academy Pipe Band led the procession, followed by the Charlie Martin and Isla Fleming, this year’s gala king and queen.

The 2023 person of honour was John Carnduff, who walked alongside the king and queen through the village.

The gala was officially opened at a ceremony at 1pm and judges announced the winner of this year’s fancy dress competition – the theme of which was cartoon characters.

Young people were thoroughly entertained with a selection of games – coconut shy, splat the rat and more throughout the day.

Sheila Drysdale, member of the events team at Dollar Community Development Trust, said she was delighted to report that the gala was a great day out for the village, proving so popular that they ran out of burgers and beer.

“It went exceptionally well,” Sheila said. “It went exactly as it should have and everything went according to plan.

“There were lots of games and things for people to do, which was good as it was incredibly busy.

“We ran out of beer and we ran out of burgers – it was simply quite a good day.”

The weather was on Dollar’s side as the village got a scorching hot day for it, with nothing but clear skies over the heads of the marching procession.

“The pipe band led them down and they were just incredible,” Sheila added. “The stalls all went well, there was a big variety of stuff for people to buy.

“I really can’t say much more, it was just a very good day for everyone.”

Menstrie is next in Clacks to host a gala day, with the procession planned for Saturday, June 10.
