A WOMAN was airlifted to hospital by rescue helicopter following a “significant fall” in the Alva Glen area yesterday evening.
Ochils Mountain Rescue Team (OMRT) volunteers worked with police and special operations ambulance crews to assist the casualty on Tuesday, June 13.
Multiple technical rope rescue systems were set up by the volunteer team members to raise the casualty, who the team said "had taken a significant fall", from a gorge at the popular Wee County beauty spot.
The 27-year-old woman was later flown to hospital by HM Coastguard Rescue 199.
A statement from OMRT said: “Once packaged in our rescue stretcher, the casualty was raised from the gorge to a high spur above the glen where colleagues, rescue helicopter 199 from Prestwick were able to winch the casualty and fly them to hospital.
“The team then assisted the casualty’s companions to walk off the hill and stood down shortly before 10pm.
“As always we wish the casualty a speedy recovery and thanks to R199 for their assistance.”
The team was in the area for several hours, assessing the woman's injuries and providing some pain relief while the rope rescue systems were set up.
A spokesperson for Police Scotland told the Advertiser: “Around 5.40pm on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, we were called to a report of an injured person at Alva Glen, Alva.
"Mountain rescue teams and HM Coastguard attended.
“The 27-year-old woman was airlifted to hospital."
